Falkland CC Pavilion Project 2 of 4

2. Fundraising

A project team was formed, building consents progressed and fundraising began. The critical factor in fundraising was registering Falkland as a charitable trust, with the Trustees elected by members. Charitable status made the Club more accountable to its members, its objects were rooted in delivering facilities for the local community, and significantly, it made the Club more eligible to receive donations from other charities and organisations.

A conversation with Greenham Common Trust (GCT), indicated that a matched funding award of £200,000 could be available, and this was the catalyst for a committed effort by the Club to see if the matched funds could be found. The support of all donors both locally and nationally has been tremendous, very encouraging and gratefully received and a full list of donors will be displayed in the new building. The support of the GCT and English Cricket Board (ECB) with their grant of £200,000 each made the whole concept achievable.

To date £1 m has been raised. As mentioned costs continue to rise, and so fundraising continues, especially as what the Club now offers to its Wash Common community has also grown. We need club members and local individuals to get involved with fundraising ideas and support, e.g., room sponsorship, buy a brick, social events etc. It is an exciting project that has generated increasing interest in a valuable local community asset.
