The Roundheads were up against a strong Mortimer and West End side, and batting first did well to accumulate over 60 runs. Wickets fell regularly, which meant defending a small total was going to be tough and Mortimer came out as the eventual winners. However, the whole of Falkland can be proud of the energy and passion the boys showed in the field, represented by a fabulous diving catch by Max that won the fans champagne moment. Bertie too was full of energy fielding close in, snaffling out the singles, winning him the man of match award. Well done Roundheads for the great commitment.

The Cavaliers took part in a fiercely contested match at Sulhamsted. Winning the toss and bowling first the Cavaliers were into the wickets early after a pacey spell from the new ball bowlers. The wickets continued to fall but with some excellent lower order hitting Sulhamsted got to 274-11 at the change of innings.

The Cavaliers took their time to get the score board moving against an excellent bowling attack. Keeping their wickets intact meant that they were up with the run rate as the overs ticked by. With five overs to go, Sulhamsted bought back their big guns to tighten things up. Three overs to go and 16 needed – a time for cool heads. A boundary off the legs and number of well run singles meant 8 runs were needed off the final 8 balls. And then disaster struck. Sulhampsted snaffled a great catch at backward point, stopping a much needed boundary and adding 5 more runs to the required total leaving 13 needed from the last over. Who would hold their nerve? Singles could have been scored off the first three balls, but they were turned down as it was boundaries the Cavaliers needed. 3 balls, 13 to win, surely that was game over? No way said Ray! Forth ball our Raymundo laced one through the covers for four and fifth ball he sent a rocket through mid off, hit so well he didn’t even bother running. Last ball, four needed to tie… Sulhampsted sent their field back, fans were on the edge of their seats, there was a deathly hush around West Berkshire as the bowler sprinted in and sent down a fierce delivery. Ray took one look at it, stepped forward and pummeled it through extra cover for four – finishing on 274-4 and match tied! What a finish and what a game!
