Fireworks

Falkland CC Fireworks Event Organiser Wilson Carlisle has issued the following statement on Sunday 11th November:
“The firework company that we have used for many years without a hitch, have told us that the electronic automatic firing system which is used for the safety of both spectators and the firework company’s crew, experienced an unprecedented failure on the night, preventing the second half of the display from firing as intended. The crew did everything possible to fire the display normally and had spare equipment in case of a system failure, but too much of the system was damaged to be able to replace all that had failed.
The volunteers at Falkland Cricket Club put a lot of work into staging this event and we are as disappointed as everyone else must be, that this occurred.
The overwhelming majority of local people have been very understanding, and know that we do not make detailed claims or promises about the content or length of the event in our publicity.
Positive comment on social media about previous years is what heightens anticipation for following years. The charge we make, which is currently less than many other events, is an entry fee to an event where a number of other things are going on as well as the fireworks, although they are admittedly the centrepiece.
Falkland Cricket Club has been doing this for over 20 years primarily for the local community and to raise funds for our charitable aims to support local cricket especially for boys, girls, women and disability groups. We charge cash on gate to keep it simple and quick, and to give people the option not to come if weather is bad, and thus save their money. This means that making any repayment to people, which in fairness would have to be to all who attended, is just not possible.
We have decided instead to make donations, supported by the firework company, to other local charities and good causes to demonstrate our continuing commitment to our community and our appreciation and anticipation of their continuing support.
Further details will be publicised in local press, social media and on our web site www.falklandcc.co.uk”
