The penultimate game of the 2025 indoor season saw Falkland U13 Girls play Odiham and Greywell. A win would keep Falkland at the top of the league.
Falkland won the toss and decided to allow Odiham to bat first.
Captain Izzy has been nursing a sore back this week and so the team were going to have to rally round to cover for her. Grace opened the bowling, on her third ball the batter hit the ball back to Grace and then set off for a run. Grace was unaware of this run, so too was the other batter who was standing at the non-strikers end. Amelia called to Grace to throw the ball to her, Grace quickly threw the ball and Odiham had lost their first wicket (10-1).
Next up to bowl were two very nervous girls, but they didn’t need to be nervous at all. Both Liv and Eleanor bowled really well, causing the batters issues with their accuracy. The next wicket fell in Eleanor's first over, a great direct hit from Lucy and Odiham were (23-2). Lucy was next up to bowl, her speed and accuracy were too much for the Odiham batters, she clean bowled her opponent. (32-3).
Captain Izzy decided to hold herself back, allowing Liv and Eleanor to bowl their second overs. Once again both girls bowled well, and once again it was a run out from Eleanor’s over; Lucy with another direct hit. (52-4) Izzy had one over, and was unlucky to not get a wicket, but only conceded one run off her over. Lucy came on for her second over and the game was over, a great run out from Grace had Odiham (55-5) and then two balls later, Lucy bowled a great straight ball and Odiham were all out for 55.
Amelia and Izzy opened the batting, but a silly run out saw Amelia out in the first over with the score at just 3. Lucy was next in and she looked good from the beginning, hit a lovely six early in her innings. Captain Izzy was next out, playing over a very slow straight ball, on its second bounce (36-2). Grace was next in to partner Lucy who was looking very impressive, she hit two further sixes as she retired not out on 26.
Eleanor came in and batted with intent, but she missed a fast straight ball and was dismissed (51-3) This brought in a very nervous Liv to the crease with the Pink Army needing four runs to get the win. Liv did so well, standing up to the quick bowler, she scored three runs, leaving Grace to get the last run, which she did with ease.
Falkland finishing 56-3 from 8.1 overs.
This was another reminder that this Falkland team, could have a great year when the outdoor season starts. Once again, the game could have gone either way, but the girls kept going and pulled off a good win, Lucy stepped up and put in a match winning performance. Special mentions to Liv and Eleanor who put what they learned in training before the game into practice, and both held their own.
