I know it's early in the year, but the girls' coaching team have been busy for the last few weeks planning for 2025.
We have an exciting year ahead and I wanted to take this opportunity to share some of the highlights with you all:
It’s great to see so many girls taking part in our winter training programme and the winter indoor leagues. We have had great success in both the U11 and U13 indoor cricket leagues. Both teams are riding high and we’ve had a lot of girls playing indoor cricket for the first time. This experience is great as it paves the way for the summer and gives the girls a chance to bond as a team. We still have a few places available on our Winter Training Programme. Please reach out to your daughter’s coach if you would like to sign up.
We’re incredibly proud to have an exceptional group of talented cricketers across our squads. Currently, we have over 15 girls involved in County setups, with 6 of them having trained with the prestigious Southern Vipers. Their dedication and achievements are an inspiration to everyone in in our Women and Girls section. We are blessed with an ever-growing number of girls at our club and this coming summer we have a huge amount planned to provide a level of cricket for everyone.
Girls' U11 Cricket
With a growing number of girls joining the club in the lower age groups, we have enough players to enter a team into the U11 Girls League for the first time. This, alongside our usual festival attendance, will provide the girls with an increased amount of cricket and the opportunity to experience friendly and competitive cricket for the first time.
Girls' U13 Cricket
Our U13 team will once again be entering 2 local leagues and the Vitality T20 National Knockout Cup. We have a great new coaching team led by Matt, Ross and Will who are focussed on the transition from softball to hardball cricket and developing the core skills needed for the future.
Girls' U15 Cricket
For the first time we will be entering 2 teams into the local U15 girls league. This is a great achievement for the club and underlines the tireless effort of the coaching team over the last 9 seasons to develop a platform for girls to play cricket. Combined with the usual entry into the boys' league and the National Knockout Cup, we will be able to provide loads of cricket for our talented pool of U15 cricketers (including an inter-club league game!). The coaching team led by Ian, are focussed on providing a fun and competitive environment focussed on fitness and speciality skills development.
Girls' U17/19 Cricket
I have been working with our U17 and U19 cricketers as we spend the winter honing core skills and preparing for competitive senior cricket. Our U17 and U19 teams are the future of competitive women’s cricket at the club. We have a deep pool of talent who are paving the way for future success. Our junior players are the future of the club and we firmly believe that the investment we are making in our players will provide all our girls and women with the toolkit to enjoy cricket at whatever level they want to play at in the future.
Women’s Cricket
Our Women’s 1st XI will once again play in the Home Counties Premier League. The number of games in the league has increased this season, so there will be more cricket than ever before. We have also entered the Vitality National T20 Knockout Cup for the first time, offering the chance to play against some of the best teams in the country.
I am pleased to be able to say that following our successes with our Women’s 1st XI and the quality of our junior players, we will be launching our Women’s 2nd XI for the 2026 season. This is testament to how well our junior players have progressed and offers a wonderful opportunity to increase our senior women’s cricket offering. Our current cohort of U15/U17/U19 players will form the backbone of this team and will offer a great pathway to competitive senior cricket. This will continue to ensure that we can provide sustainable senior club cricket for all standards moving forward.
Women's Softball
Our Women’s Softball team will once again provide an opportunity to play social cricket at the club. Anyone over the age of 16 who would prefer to play softball cricket is welcome to come along and train with the team on a Friday evening and play in the league this summer. Last year was a huge success and we will look to replicate that again this season.
Other News
We will once again be hosting a professional Women’s game at Falkland this season. On Wednesday 9th July, we will welcome Hampshire Hawks and Lancashire Thunder to the club in the Vitality Women’s Blast T20 competition. This will be a great opportunity to watch professional women’s cricket and for the girls to meet some of their favourite players.
Get Involved
There are loads of ways to get involved in your club. Whether helping the coaches at training, working towards becoming a coach, assisting with admin, fixture planning, sponsorship, or just providing extra support to the coaches, we’d love to hear from you if you could offer some of your time so that we can continue to grow. With your help, we are also looking to develop the social side away from the pitch with the return of some club BBQ’s on a Friday evening, re-establishing our online presence (any budding social media/marketeers out there?) and other fun events – please just let us know if you are able to help in any way!
