It is with great sadness that the club has learned of the death of former member David Lloyd.
David joined Falkland at the end of the 1980s. He had previously played for Newbury CC where he had been a stylish high order batsman and had also been responsible for the cricket square at Northcroft.
In his subsequent playing career at Falkland he only made occasional appearances, totalling 123 matches between 1989 and 2003 scoring a total of 1100 runs.
David's great contribution to Falkland CC was the energy and devotion he put into maintaining and enhancing the playing facilities on Falkland's second ground, which was then part of the former Enborne Lodge School. Working hand in hand with another great Falkland stalwart club Vice-Chairman Ron Hastings, David used all the experience he brought from Newbury to prepare some beautiful looking cricket wickets, even though he had to cope with the fact that the square was at the time in the middle of a football pitch and was crossed by a running track!
It was a great joy to David when negotiations led by the then club chairman Wilson Carlisle, enabled the club to purchase the ground when Enborne Lodge School was closed at the end of the 1990s.
All those who knew David will remember him as a lovely man, unfailingly courteous and exceptionally generous by nature, as he demonstrated by regular return visits and donations he continued to make to the club even after he moved away from the area.
