Historic 1ST Win for Falkland CC's Walking Cricket Team!

The Berkshire walking cricket cup was up for grabs on Wednesday 19th August in a 4 team tournament at the beautiful ground of Purley on Thames. First up for Falkland was the game against hosts Purley CC, who won the toss & opted to bowl. Falkland were up against a strong bowling attack and were restricted to 44 for the loss of 5 wickets. It was a challenging experience in the field with Purley posting 142 for 3. Special mention goes to Pete who bowled Greg, the Purley player with Barbadian cricket experience. 

In the 2nd game (sound the celebration klaxon) it was a historic day for Falkland's walking cricket squad, as they recorded their first ever win. Falkland won the toss, Mortimer CC were put into bat. They reached 112 but following sterling bowling, especially from Kev who managed 2 wickets in his over, a 5 wicket haul from Falkland reduced the target needed to 87. Terry & Ken were the last pair & not only reached the target, but  managed to keep their wicket so there was no deduction. Boycott-like defensive last 2 balls from Ken meant the team didn’t lose any wickets. A WIN! 

In the final game a strong Holyport batting performance set Falkland a challenging target of 155. In the end the chase was too much for Falkland who could only manage a total of 71 for 5. Falkland were up against Holyport’s excellent fielding with a number of great catches including a world class dive-catch on the boundary. Falkland finished 3rd out of 4 in the table. There was a brilliant team spirit shown & all in the Falkland team played their part with some great batting & bowling.

Grateful thanks go to Berkshire Cricket who very kindly donated a cricket bag to each of the 4 teams. Neil, as captain for the day, accepted the bag on Falkland CC's behalf.
