It is with massive pride we can report that our newly formed Women’s 1st XI have won their league in their inaugural season. Here’s the match report by Women’s coach Neil Rider.
On Sunday the Falkland Women’s 1st XI hosted 2nd place in the league table, and fellow title contenders, Thame CC. Knowing that a win would secure victory, Falkland started well winning the toss and choosing to bat first.
Regular openers Holly Rider and Ava Lee looked calm and assured in compiling a first wicket partnership of 85 before Lee was bowled for a well made 42. Annabel Flack then joined Holly to put on a further 87 runs. A freak fielding incident resulted in Holly having to retire injured on 79 not out and unable to play any further part in the game. Flack remained composed and scored a very well crafted first half century for the club with an unbeaten 60 not out, to help post a commanding 218-2 off 30 overs.
Thame in reply came out all guns blazing and with Falkland reduced to 10 players the ball was disappearing to most parts of the ground. At the half way stage Thame we’re up with the run rate and in the game. A very good spell of bowling by Kira Engall taking 2-20 off 4 overs helped wrestle the game back in favour of Falkland. Despite a big hitting 80 from Catherine Hawkes in reply, Thame fell short by 27 runs. The win for Falkland in front of a good crowd at the Enborne Lodge ground witnessed the Falkland Women win their league in their debut season with one game to spare - a great result for a team full of depth and youth and with everyone making contributions throughout the Summer.
We at FCC cannot wait to see these talented cricketers get back to work in 2022!
