Meet Falkland!

This week we spoke to Neil Rider, who many of you know well, but we think there may be a few things you find surprising!

Age - 43

Role/roles at Falkland CC -
Head Coach of the Girls & Women’s section. Support coach to the Boys u13s. Captain of the Development Team. On the board of the trustees.

How long have you been a member of Falkland cc?
6 Years

Most runs?
143 not out

Best bowling figures?
7 for 41

Best cricket moment?
For Falkland it would have to be captaining a great group of youngsters in the development team to an unbeaten season in 2020!

Worst cricket moment?
Breaking my arm the day before my England u17 trial

Cricketing achievement you are most proud of?
Being the coach and manager of the England Women’s team between 2003 - 2007. Winning the Ashes and beating India at Lords.

How did you get into cricket?
My dad played so I used to go and watch him every weekend from the age of 5 and get all his mates to bowl at me. There was no gadgets or WiFi then!

Ultimate cricket hero?
Shane Warne - I was fortunate to work with him at Hampshire and he is legendary both on and off the field!

Cricketing ambitions?
To try and pass on as much knowledge and experience as I can to the next generation of Falkland cricketers

What advice would you give to a young cricketer just starting their cricket journey?
Have fun, enjoy it, practice as much as you can wherever and whenever you can, then block the good ones and hit the bad ones!

Neil and the rest of the Development XI will be hoping for better weather, for their away league fixture at Silchester on Saturday.
