Match Report – Falkland vs Whitchurch (14 March)
After winning the toss, skipper Izzy elected to bat. Opening with Mya, the pair laid down a composed foundation, running well and showing much-improved communication between the wickets. Izzy eventually fell for a well-made 20, claiming the honour of finishing as the league’s top run-scorer in the process.
Mya was joined by Els, and after a steady start they accelerated the innings with a flurry of attacking shots. Both batters were in good form — Mya retired unbeaten on 25* after a series of powerful shots hitting the side walls, while Els followed soon after with an aggressive 28* including five boundaries.
Abi and Katie closed out the innings with assured strokes, adding valuable runs as Falkland posted an imposing 119 for 1 from their allotted overs.
Disciplined Bowling Secures Victory
Chasing 120 was always going to be a big ask for Whitchurch, particularly against Falkland’s disciplined bowling attack. The fielding unit was focussed from the outset — cutting off singles, stopping boundaries, and maintaining relentless pressure. Behind the stumps, Emilia once again impressed with a performance full of sharp takes and quick reflexes.
Izzy opened the bowling followed by Mya, Eleanor, Katie and Abi. By the end of the fourth over, Whitchurch found themselves on just 17 runs. Debutant Katie further tilted the game Falkland’s way, claiming her first wicket for the club and finishing with excellent figures of 1 for 6 from two overs. In the penultimate over, Izzy took the bails off twice in quick succession to finish with 2 wickets for 14 runs from 3 overs.
Whitchurch’s batters never found rhythm, and Falkland’s energy in the field ensured there was no late surge. Another comprehensive win to finish on 9 wins from 9 games and top of the table.
