Wall-to-Wall Brilliance!

Wall-to-Wall Brilliance!

Sarah Pilbrow26 Nov - 15:12

Falkland U11 Girls Shine with Power Hitting, Tight Bowling, and Donuts.

Falklands CC 122/6 beat Old Basing CC 86/2.

Captain for the day, Poppy, unfortunately lost the toss, meaning the Falkland Under 11 Girls were put into bat first.

Bella-Rose and Amber M opened the innings with confidence, playing some assured strokes and running well between the wickets. They pushed the total to 36 for the loss of just two wickets after the opening four overs.

In the middle order, Darcey and Imogen kept the momentum going, building on the strong start and taking the total to 69, albeit with five wickets down. During a determined seventh, the pair rotated the strike smartly, adding a further 11 runs.

Then came the finishing act. Poppy (20) and Amber G (22) closed the innings in style, showcasing plenty of confident shot-making as they added a huge 59 runs in their four overs. The final over was especially explosive; both girls struck the back wall for sixes, racking up 18 runs from just five balls.

Falkland finished on an impressive 122 for 6.

Old Basing then set out to chase the target, but Falkland immediately applied the pressure.

Opening again with superb accuracy, Bella-Rose delivered three dot balls to set the tone. Imogen struck with a wicket thanks to another excellent catch from Amber M — her second in as many matches.

Overs 9 to 12 showcased some of the best bowling of the season. Bella-Rose, Darcey, Imogen, Amber G, and Amber M combined for 25 balls without conceding a single run from the bat — an incredible achievement. Bella-Rose led the charge with a brilliant bowled wicket, and Darcey was unlucky not to pick one up herself, narrowly missing the stumps several times.

It was an excellent evening of cricket from a team growing in confidence every week.

Running between the wickets showed real improvement, and next match’s focus will be tighter bowling and limiting extras.

A big thank you to Pete for umpiring and to all parents for travelling to Dummer on a drizzly Saturday evening. And a special shout-out to Lee for the donuts — essential fuel for champions!
