With the start of the leagues only a couple of weeks away, glorious weather and some outstanding performances saw Falkland set the bar high for the season ahead.
Our 1st XI welcomed Burbage and Easton Royal 1st XI to our Enborne Lodge ground. Batting first, Burbage posted 236/6 from their 45 overs. Captain James Bird, Sunil Sharma and Tom Ettridge all opened their 2022 bowling accounts with 2 wickets each, with Ettridge our most economical with 2-21 from his 9 overs.
In response to Burbage’s respectable total, Falkland’s captain Bird again showed great form with 73, ably supported by Brandon Gilmour. (68*)
Falkland wrapped up the game with 238/9 with 6 overs to spare.
Our 2nd XI, showed equally positive form, when they travelled to Purley CC. Losing the toss and being put in to bat, the loss of our two openers could have shaken our confidence, but our number 3 batter Anthony Hennis had other ideas! Soon joined at the crease by former captain and Chairman of Cricket at FCC Graham Beal, both batted superbly to reach the first two century scores of 2022! Falkland posted a healthy total of 252/5. Despite the Purley CC captain making 60, it was Falkland’s day, with Aaron Graham taking 3-33, Rowan Hathaway 2-22, and Graham Beal continuing his good day out with 2-8.
The Falkland 3rd XI maintained the club success when they visited Donnington CC. Winning the toss and electing to bat, opener and undeniable Falkland star Holly Rider made 55 from 72 balls including 8 boundaries. More great batting from captain Neil Rider (30*) and Isaac Nelsen (27) saw Falkland make 180/9 from their 40 overs.
The second innings saw Falkland’s bowling attack prevent Donnington from ever getting their foot in the door, with 3-19 from Anbu Murasoli, 3-24 for Jamie Cozens, with 2-31 for Soorya Anbumurasoli and Lottie Aird taking 2-31. This great bowling restricted Donnington to 150 AO in just 36.1 overs.
All in all, a hugely successful day, and Falkland CC are feeling full of positivity for the season ahead!
