It was a glorious summer morning, perfect for cricket as Falkland U11 Roundheads hosted Thatcham in a much-anticipated fixture.
Thatcham Innings
Thatcham batted first and were immediately put under pressure by an outstanding all-round bowling and fielding display from the Roundheads. Each bowler delivered 2 overs, keeping the energy high and the pressure relentless. Oscar and Vraj were economical, conceding just 8 runs each. Viraat bowled with good rhythm, despite going for 19 runs.
Peter struck early, finishing with figures of 1 wicket for 9 runs. Harrison was exceptional, taking 2 wickets for just 3 runs. Nathan had a special day, taking 2 wickets for 11 runs, including a memorable caught-and-bowled. Seb chipped in with a wicket, conceding 17 runs. Derick was brilliant with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 13 runs.
The fielding was just as sharp: Outstanding catches were taken by Derick, Nathan, Vraj, and Oscar. Derick also contributed with two brilliant stumpings. Harrison earned applause for a committed dive that saved a boundary.
Thatcham were restricted to 88/8, thanks to a truly team-driven bowling and fielding effort.
Roundheads' Innings
In reply, the Falkland Roundheads showed depth and confidence with the bat. Every player contributed to the chase.
Vraj scored a steady 14. Oscar added 7. Viraat anchored the innings with a stylish 20. Peter chipped in with 2. Nathan added 3, backing up his bowling performance. Harrison contributed 9.
Derick played a blistering knock of 36, the standout batting performance and Seb supported very well from the non-striker’s end, contributing with a number of extras.
The Roundheads finished on 142/8, sealing a comprehensive and well-earned victory.
