After a long week at school, Falkland U13 Girls faced one of the toughest opponents in the League, a strong Royal Ascot team boasting a number of Berkshire players.
Falkland won the toss and elected to field first. Falkland started well with Amelia picking up two quick wickets, including a fabulous catch behind the stumps by Daisy. After 4 overs, Ascot were 16 for 2. Ascot then took control and were scoring at a good rate. When Issy started her second over Ascot were looking good on 62 for 2, but two wickets brought Falkland back into the match. Wickets continued to be taken, Hope with a fantastic run out, Issy took her third and Daisy took a wicket too.
Royal Ascot finished on a very strong 124 for 7 from their 20 overs.
Falkland needed to bat well to stand a chance as the light failed, and that's exactly what they did.
The top three all faced over 16 balls, staying in against their best bowlers. Sienna and Izzy both retiring after facing their 20 balls. Hope then came in and gave a demonstration of power-hitting, smashing five 4s in her 20 balls, top scoring for Falkland with 27. All the girls batted with confidence and skill against some fast bowling. Sienna (15 not out) and Izzy (21 not out) seeing Falkland home with three overs to spare. Falkland finishing on 125 for 5.
This was the girls' first game against a quality opposition. The difference between the two teams was the togetherness our girls demonstrated, sitting on the boundary cheering and encouraging their teammates. These girls are good cricketers but their team spirit is there for all to see, it was picked up on by the Ascot manager, who was very complimentary.
One again girls, well done you are all awesome.
