Girls U13 win local derby V East Woodhay U11 boys

Sarah Pilbrow24 Jun - 10:18

Solid performance from all batting pairs and super fielding

East Woodhay won the toss and asked the girls to bat first. Opening pair Mya and Florence set about building the innings and after Mya was out caught first ball they batted sensibly to keep the score moving.

Next in were Grace and Eleanor who quickly moved the score along with both scoring quickly and finding the boundary regularly. It was great to see Eleanor putting her good batting technique in the nets into a match situation. Just the 1 wicket fell with Eleanor being bowled by the best East Woodhay bowler.

Alexa and Maggie were next in and Alexa started confidently hitting a couple of lovely 4s and the scoreboard kept ticking upwards with only a single wicket to fall again.

Last pair of Millie and Evelyn had to contend with East Woodhay changing tactics and bringing on the best bowlers to try and take wickets and keep the total down. Both batted excellently to not lose any wickets and Millie hit two classy 4’s to again put her technique in the nets into practice in a match.

The girls finished on a net 294 from the 16 overs which was an excellent effort with sensible running throughout and great shot selection to keep losing wickets to a minimum.

East Woodhay decided to go with putting strongest batsmen in for the first 2 pairs and although they scored plenty of runs off the bat, they lost wickets on a regular basis with consistent bowling by all the girls and excellent fielding which resulted in 3 run outs (well done Alexa) which was the main difference between the teams and resulted in the girls winning the game by 21 runs.

Notably call outs for Eleanor for only going for 6 runs from 2 overs (and helping out with the wicket keeping), 1 wicket each for Grace and Mya and the bowler of the day going to Maggie for taking 2 wickets for 8 runs from her 2 overs.
