Victory over Hursley Park

After an extended net session, captain Izzy won the toss and elected to bowl. Opening the attack, Mya set the tone with a great spell, beating the bat repeatedly and strangling the scoring rate against a top order that included a batter fresh from a 62 in the previous game. Her control and discipline established the standard for the rest of the innings, as the entire attack followed with pace, accuracy and relentlessness.

The bowlers were backed brilliantly in the field. Mya, Els and Izzy all produced crucial stops on the back wall, turning would-be boundaries into dot balls and keeping Hursley under constant pressure. Special credit goes to Abigail, making her indoor debut with a composed bowling display, and to Amelia, who handled some sharp, rising deliveries behind the stumps and pulled off a series of excellent takes throughout the innings.

The standout performance, though, belonged to Izzy. Her spell was exceptional, and she claimed all four wickets in just three overs, conceding only nine runs in a clinical display. Hursley closed their 12 overs on a restricted 68 for 4.

Chasing 69, openers Els and Izzy began steadily against some disciplined Hursley bowling. Els, after an aggressive start, was the first to fall when her heel brushed the stumps as she set off for a run — an unpopular decision by the square leg umpire (but she is talking to me again). Georgia arrived with intent and struck the ball cleanly before being undone by a fast, straight delivery.

Mya then entered to steady the innings, looking assured and striking several neat shots. Izzy continued her fine match, reaching a well-crafted 25 before retiring, bringing Emilia to the crease for a brief but lively cameo. The target was reached comfortably, with the side finishing on 70 for 2 in 9.1 overs.

With the result secured, credit to Hursley — playing their second match back-to-back — who were happy to complete the full 12 overs, giving Mya and Emilia valuable extra time at the crease. Both batted with freedom, while Abigail safely negotiated the final two balls of the innings.

A superb all-round team performance, highlighted by some outstanding individual contributions and played throughout in the right spirit. The girls were excellent — disciplined, determined and thoroughly deserving of the win.
