In our second game of the indoor season Falkland Played Hursley Park, in the battle between the league's two unbeaten teams. Hursley won the toss and elected to field first.
Daisy and Issy opened the batting, both girls looked solid with their defences in the first over. There were no risks being taking with running, with the girls settling for runs off the walls. Issy was the first wicket to fall as she attempted a powerful cover drive, falling to a good catch by the Hursley player.
Izzy joined Daisy at the crease and both girls batted well against a very consistent bowling attack. No width was given to either batter, with the majority of the balls aimed at the stumps. Izzy was hitting the ball well, and on another day would have had several 6’s to her name, but the fielders were doing a great job. Izzy was the next to fall, again another good catch from the same Hursley fielder, and she was walking back to the gate, after a good score of 23.
Maya joined Daisy, but they weren’t together long as Daisy was bowled by a good delivery. Once again Daisy had produced a great platform for the team, she fell one short of the retirement score, reaching 24 runs. Mya was next in, but with only 14 balls left, we needed quick runs. Maya hit a lovely six, but the bowling was making run scoring tough. Maya finished 11 not out with Mya 7 not out, taking our total to a just below par 79 from the 12 overs.
The girls needed to bowl and field well to stand a chance. Issy opened the bowling, her first ball was a beauty, but the Hursley batter played a wonderful cover drive, the next ball was too quick for her and she played and missed, but they decided to run for a quick single. Daisy retrieved the ball and threw at the stumps, Hursley’s best batter was short of her crease and out without facing a ball.
Hollie, playing in her first indoor match was next up to bowl, she got a wicket with her first ball, a drive straight to Mya who took a smart catch. Hursley were on top of the scoring, but were persisting in trying to find quick runs, and this was leading to numerous run out opportunities, and Daisy was picking up the run outs.
Izzy came on for her second over and bowled a maiden, this put the pressure on Hursley. Issy in her second over nearly had a wicket as Mya attempted to pull off a fantastic catch, the ball was smashed to her, but it just did not stick. It was left to Hollie to seal the victory with a direct hit, and the fifth run out of the innings, with Daisy claiming the other four.
This was a great win, set up by Daisy and Izzy with the bat and then a whole round team performance whilst fielding. Once again great support from parents, plus Lucy and Isla who stayed on after the nets. Well done girls.
