Fantastic fielding displays seal victory over Hambledon and Hursley Park

Saturday evening saw Falkland U16s Indoor side have their first ever double headed and their final matches of a fantastic 2025, as they faced Hambledon and then Hursley Park.

Hambledon were up first and put into bat by captain Izzy. Hambledon got off to a decent start, but lost a wicket in the second over, going for a risky single, Isabelle G with a fine run out. The next wicket was a beauty. Lucy M bowling a fast ball outside off stump, the batter got a nice edge to the ball, Isabelle G behind the stumps pulled off a fantastic diving catch low to her right.

Isabel B then produced a moment of magic of her own, an in swinging delivery was too good for the batter and Hambledon were in trouble. Another good run out meant their best batter was back in after reaching her retirement score. But Falkland had an on fire Lucy M, she pulled off a great caught and bowled, and the opposition were all out for just 59 from 11 overs.

The fielding and bowling display was special, against a good side. With a challenging lower total to chase Amelia and Lucy M opened the batting. Both girls batted well, with the scoreboard steadily creeping up. The first wicket fell when a mix up occurred while running. Lucy concerned that her partner may not make her ground, slowed up, but the fielder threw at her stumps, and she was just short of her crease. But the damage had been done - Lucy scored 18 runs.

Izzy joined Amelia, but a few balls later Amelia attempted a quick run and she too was dismissed, scoring a well crafted 17 runs. This left Izzy and Sienna to bring it home and they did with two overs to spare. Izzy finishing 12 not out and Sienna 6 not out.

This win was built on a great fielding display, the girls were backing each other up while fielding and stopped numerous six attempts. This means after four games we are unbeaten and sit at the top of the league.

In the second game, once again captain Izzy won the toss and elected to field first, against a decent Hursley Park team.

The fielding performance continued from the first game, the girls were fantastic, runs were extremely hard to come by. At the halfway stage Hursley had scored just 22 runs. Only one wicket fell in the innings, a good run out from Daisy W. But Hursley could not get the accurate bowling away. Falkland conceded 18 runs from the final over, which got them to a below par, but still challenging, 70 runs.

Amelia and Lucy M were fantastic, they took the bowling apart, putting pressure on the opposition which in turn lead to them bowling No Balls and Wides. The girls chased the target down in just 6.4 overs without losing a wicket. Lucy finished on a superb 27 and Amelia on a equally superb 19.

Five games completed and five wins.

Coach, Ian Gibson, summed up the saying, "A great way to finish 2025! Thank you to all the parents who have supported me and the girls this year, especially my lovely wife Deb, who is always there cheering on every girl. I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas."
