U15 girls at the top of the table

Sarah Pilbrow2 Mar - 22:21

Can anyone catch them?

Saturday saw the U15s in action again, this time against Basingstoke.

Captain Daisy won the toss and elected to bat first.

Amelia and Grace opened the batting and, although both girls were very nervous, those nerves soon disappeared as Amelia attacked the bowler from the start, hitting a fantastic 14 runs. Grace then followed suit in the second over as she picked up 8 runs. The two girls put on a quick 51 run partnership inside five overs.

Amelia was the first wicket to fall, she scored 16 runs, caught after hitting the ball into the net. Izzy G then came in to partner Grace. Grace then went to town on the bowlers, hitting one girl for 17 runs in one over, including two sixes in a row. Grace reached her retirement score of 25, meaning captain Daisy joined Izzy G at the crease.

The next wicket was Izzy, clean bowled for 14 from 8 balls. With only a couple of overs left, the running became a little frantic, Isabel B was run out after a great run a ball five, meaning that Lucy came in to bat with her sister. With only seven balls remaining the girls were running on everything and picking up important runs. Lucy was run out on the final ball of the innings scoring 6 from just four balls, leaving Captain Daisy not out on 14.

Falkland had amassed 116 for four.

Falkland started amazingly well in the field. After just four overs Basingstoke were five wickets down and scoring just five runs. Isabel B had two wickets for no runs, Grace got two wickets for three runs and Amelia with one wicket for one run.

This meant that Basingstoke’s and the league's top batter was the last man standing, and she set upon the Falkland bowlers. The Falkland girls got a little bit complacent, allowing a number of soft sixes to pass them.

It was Izzy who eventually dismissed her, after beating her with her fifth bowl the sixth saw the batter hit the ball in the air and Grace took a smart catch. Basingstoke all out for 54, and a win for Falkland by an impressive 62 runs.

Our girls batted and bowled well today, once again they were a strong unit, that unit included Caitlin, Liv and Isabelle G who stayed behind to support their team mates. It would have been easy for the parents to disappear but the girls stayed and offered great support from the side lines, so thank you to the parents.
