Falkland’s Fine Form at the Festival

On a glorious May morning, with the sun smiling through patches of cloud and a cool breeze offering perfect cricketing conditions, the Falkland Under-11 Girls took to the field at the Wokingham Cricket Festival. Over three exciting games, the girls displayed exceptional skill, spirit, and sportsmanship, showcasing how far they’ve come as a team.

Match 1: Falkland 241/4 vs Littlewick Green 243/4 – Lost by 2 runs
In a nail-biting opener, Falkland were narrowly edged out by a strong Littlewick Green side by just 2 runs. Batting highlights included some sumptuous boundaries from Emilia, supported by solid shots from Grace, Edie, and Freya.

With the ball, Edie bowled a tight line and length to claim two wickets, supported by Poppy with one, thanks to a stunning catch from Emilia at midwicket. Freya added to the tally with a straight, accurate delivery that clattered into middle stump. The fielding was sharp throughout, with brilliant energy shown by all.

Match 2: Falkland 285/1 vs Wokingham 219/3 – Won by 66 runs
In their second game, Falkland bounced back in dominant fashion against the host team. Imogen lit up the innings with powerful hitting, forming a dynamic partnership with Edie, who even managed to score a rare 5 with aggressive running.

Quick singles and pressure running led to overthrows, with Emilia particularly alert at the non-striker’s end to capitalise on wides. Grace and Poppy added flourish to the total with a brace of boundaries each. In the field, Imogen pulled off a superb run-out, while Poppy and Emilia both took clean bowled wickets to help secure a convincing win.

Match 3: Falkland 291/2 vs Purley 256/3 – Won by 35 runs
The final match of the day saw Falkland at their most confident and composed. All batters chipped in with boundary-laden contributions. The Bennis sisters struck beautifully for a brace each, and Emilia capped off the innings with a sparkling 16-run knock.

With the ball, Emilia delivered a peach to hit the top of middle stump, while Edie was frugal as ever, including a miserly maiden over. Grace continued to grow in confidence, taking a wicket maiden, and Freya struck at a key moment to restrict the opposition.

Team Spirit and Growth
Beyond the scores, what stood out was the incredible camaraderie, teamwork, and leadership shown by the girls. Each match brought new learnings, and the players supported one another brilliantly throughout the day.
Falkland can be proud of their performances — full of flair, grit, and fun. A memorable day of cricket that promises an exciting future for this talented young side.
