The girls' U15 Lightning had their second match of the week on Friday evening versus an older Finchampstead side. Finchampstead won the toss and asked Falkland to bat first.
Daisy and Lucy opened the batting, they started well and got to 17 before the first wicket fell, Lucy clean bowled. This brought Milla to the crease. Milla and Daisy batted beautifully, hitting some gorgeous shots to the boundary, and running sensibly between the wickets. Daisy got to her 30 ball limit and retired on 31.
Captain Izzy came in to partner Milla and set about the Finch bowling attack. Milla, approaching her 30 ball limit, was the next wicket, a faint edge to the keeper and she was dismissed for 30, Falkland were 136 for 2. If they thought they could now pick up wickets, they were in for a shock.
Amelia joined Izzy and the two U13 girls took it up a level. Izzy reached her first ever 50, and raised her bat to her cheering teammates, while at the other end Amelia was hitting anything wide for fours. In the five overs they batted together they added a hugely impressive 72 runs. Izzy reached her 30 ball limited after scoring 54. Grace came in for the final few balls. Falkland finishing their innings on 214-2.
The Falkland girls still needed to finish off the job and field well. They did it superbly. The first wicket fell in the 4th over with the score at 35. Lucy with a great clean bowled. Finchampstead built a little partnership, but Georgia then claimed a lovely caught and bowled. 72 for 2.
Finch then lost three wickets in four balls. Captain Izzy clean bowling two and then Amelia getting a wicket with her first ball, and Finchampstead were in all sorts of problems at 101-5. Their tail batted well to get them to an impressive 155 from their 20 overs, and the Lightning girls won by 59 runs.
This was a great team performance, batting, bowling and fielding were all at a high level, and too much for the opposition. Thank you for all the support once again.
