U11 Girls Hold Their Nerve for Brilliant 10 Run Victory!

Confident batting, sharp fielding, and superb team spirit seal the win

Falkland (273/2) beat Old Basing CC (263/1)

Falkland won the toss and chose to bat first, with Amber M stepping up as captain for the day. The team began strongly in the field, showing real improvement in awareness and teamwork. Grace made the early breakthrough, taking a wicket that was well caught by Georgia G at extra cover(ish). Georgia then delivered a lively spell of bowling that the opposition defended carefully. Impressively, Old Basing did not score a single run from running throughout their innings, being restricted entirely to points from hitting the walls. The girls’ determination to stop the ball early saved many runs and demonstrated how much their fielding has progressed.

With the bat, Falkland continued to build momentum. Grace opened the innings confidently, scoring off four consecutive deliveries and repeatedly finding the off side wall. Alex supported her well, adding valuable early runs with some neat, controlled shots. When Poppy and Amber came to the crease, they kept the scoreboard moving with positive running and well timed strokes. Amber showed real composure, surviving a superb over from the opposition and batting with assurance.

With the scores level, the final pair — Georgia and Lizzie, who was playing in her first ever indoor match — walked in with the game finely balanced. Georgia began with confidence, striking the back wall with the final ball of her first over. Lizzie contributed a well run single and showed tremendous resilience after being struck by the ball, continuing bravely and adding more runs. Georgia finished strongly, hitting the back wall for a second time, and together the pair guided Falkland over the line to secure a well deserved 10 run victory.

The match was played with fantastic camaraderie, enthusiasm, and plenty of smiles. A huge thank you goes to everyone who came along to support, to Georgia for stepping in at the last minute, and to Adam B for helping with the umpiring. Another brilliant performance from the Falkland girls.
