Falkland CC Dominate at Basingstoke to return to the top of the table

Sarah Pilbrow2 Mar - 09:08

U11 Girls Indoor team clinical and composed

Falkland CC delivered a balanced and highly disciplined performance this week, securing a decisive victory against Basingstoke & North Hants CC through sharp fielding and a flawless batting display.

Precision in the Field

After winning the toss, Captain Bella elected to field first and immediately set the standard. With her very first delivery, she shattered the stumps to claim a wicket, following it up with a second just three balls later. This early breakthrough provided the momentum the rest of the attack needed.

The bowling unit remained remarkably consistent throughout the innings:

• Grace was exceptionally economical, conceding only 1 run from her 12 balls and contributing a run-out through sharp work off her own bowling.
• Amber showed great progress with improved accuracy; she was unlucky not to take a wicket herself, bowling 3 excellent dot balls to keep the pressure on.
• Poppy and Imogen both produced clinical spells, using their accuracy to bowl the batters out and finishing with figures of 1 for 8 and 1 for 7 respectively.
• Lizzie’s over saw two consecutive run-outs; the first coming from the quick gloves of Amber, followed by a direct hit from Imogen, who claimed two run-outs during the innings.

Supported by constant encouragement in the field, Falkland restricted Basingstoke to 65 for 8 (225 total).

A Flawless Run Chase

The batting performance was defined by composure and clinical running. Bella (15) led the way with some refined pull shots, while Amber (9) showed great resilience against the quicker bowlers, providing a stable platform for the middle order.

As the innings progressed, the scoring rate accelerated:

• Poppy played aggressively, striking the back wall twice to post 27 from just 9 balls.
• Grace added a confident 19 from 11 balls, showing excellent awareness between the wickets.
• Imogen (14) and Lizzie (7) closed out the innings with sensible shot selection and assertive running that frequently forced overthrows from the opposition.

In an impressive feat of concentration, the team posted a joint-record total of 114 without losing a single wicket.

Final Score: Basingstoke & North Hants CC: 225/8 lost to Falkland CC: 314/0

A fantastic team effort characterized by skill and great spirit. Well done to all the girls involved.
